The KIBECO Talk in Zurich was a dynamic and stimulating event where we joined experts and visionaries in looking toward the future of construction. Inspiring presentations and in-depth discussions highlighted the importance of placing regenerative building materials and the circular economy at the heart of our industry.

It was about more than technical solutions—it was about attitude, courage, and role models.

It is possible to build without cement, conserve resources, and break new ground—even outside the norms. But for these approaches to have a broad impact, we need people and teams to implement them. Or, as Stefan Köhler from SBB said: “It is important to have the right people on board.” Large construction companies must lead the way and demonstrate what is possible – as “problem solvers who create lighthouses, as Martin Bodmer put it.

The building material clay has also been rethought: instead of being seen as a relic of the past, it is regarded as a material with a future—with strengths that can be put to constructive use. In Yemen, multi-story buildings are made of rammed clay, and clay is also used successfully in construction in many other regions. So why not here too—as a matter of course?

A lively discussion about CO₂ pricing—with differing opinions between effective incentives and social responsibility—and a lively exchange with the audience rounded off the talk. The discussions continued during the networking lunch, where participants asked questions and networked.
