KIBECO's contribution to the climate pathway
The new SIA 390/1:2025, which will apply from February 2025, sets out requirements for greenhouse gas balancing and climate-friendly construction, with the aim of the building sector achieving net zero emissions by 2050. This is achieved by taking a holistic view of the entire life cycle of a building - from material extraction to dismantling.
For the construction industry, the norm means an increased focus on alternative building materials, the reuse of materials and energy efficiency.
KIBECO is already actively pursuing these goals: by reusing demolition materials, valuable resources are preserved and CO₂ is permanently stored in KIBECO concrete. In addition, with KIBECO Cleancrete Oulesse, we offer a cement-free alternative to conventional, high-emission structural concrete. KIBECO Cleancrete Nossim, a cast clay, ensures a pleasant indoor climate thanks to its high heat storage capacity and reduces energy consumption for heating and air conditioning. Clay, a natural and local building material that is produced as a filter cake waste product and reused in our cast clay, also helps to conserve resources. With our electric truck mixers, we are also helping to reduce emissions during transportation. Over 12 kg of CO2 equivalent is saved per 100 tonne-kilometres. That is over 60% of the greenhouse gas emissions generated by conventional truck mixers.
SIA 390/1:2025 offers the construction industry the opportunity to drive forward sustainable materials and processes - KIBECO is already on this path.
