Baustoff-City: Interview with Daniel Bänziger

Daniel Bänziger, Regional Manager for Eastern Switzerland, answered our questions about the new Baustoff-City in Weinfelden.

Among other things, he talked about the opportunities that such a processing plant brings. As Bänziger explains, Baustoff-City offers the opportunity to process mineral construction waste using state-of-the-art technology. "From this, we obtain high-quality sand and gravel material that we can use for a wide variety of purposes, but primarily for concrete production." This should not only conserve gravel resources, but also reduce the amount of excavated material that would otherwise have to be deposited in regional landfills.

Bänziger adds that the high quality of the raw materials will hopefully help to lower the inhibition threshold with regard to the use of recycled building materials in the region.
"The densification of construction in Switzerland means that more demolition materials will be produced in the future."

In addition, gravel extraction projects are becoming increasingly difficult to realize and, in the long term, it is a fact that primary resources are finite. These two points show the increasing importance of keeping deconstruction materials in the cycle."
